MAURICE SHERIDAN
Biography

Maurice has been a practising Barrister since 1990, following several years in roles as Assistant to the President of the Italian Constitutional Court and as Assistant to the Italian Minister for Coordination of European Policies. He has specialised since the beginning of his practice in the application of EU law, especially in the commercial and environmental sectors. He has acted for the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, EU Member States, numerous multinational corporations and financial institutions, NGOs and individuals, including in national courts and arbitrations and before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Maurice has worked with Ana Stanic on many matters prior to their creation of E&A Law Ltd as an entity converted from a Solicitor Law Firm to a BSB Authorised Body in 2019.
In respect of the operation of EU law, Maurice advises on a wide range of issues including EU public and constitutional law; the correct implementation and operation of EU law in domestic jurisdictions, courts and tribunals; EU duties of public bodies; the free movement of goods; agricultural law; the commercial agents directive; public procurement; environmental aspects of state aid; and environmental law and policy.
In relation specifically to the environmental sector, Maurice has represented clients extensively in numerous areas including water law, wastewater law, waste management, air pollution, the Habitats Directive, the Environmental Impact Assessment Directive, the Renewables Directive and the Industrial Emissions Directive. He is a well known specialist in dealing with environmental permitting applications (particularly on technically complex matters) and, challenges to environmental regulatory enforcement action in statutory appeals processes before national courts and tribunals (including the Supreme Court), as well as the Court of Justice of the European Union. Maurice is recognised as an environmental lawyer with sound commercial understanding and strategic thinking, and has continued to act for national and global commercial organisations in resolution of environmental disputes involving waste management contracts, PFI contracts and warranty issues.
He has also conducted investigations into allegations of Prohibited Practices and alleged breach of requirements in relation to international procurement rules and procedures.
Maurice is a Barrister with rights of audience in the Courts of England and Wales, and has also appeared before the Court of Justice of the European Union.

About Maurice
Born in Scotland, he has lived and been educated in the UK, France and Belgium, and also lived in Italy.
During the early 1990’s, in addition to acting as a Barrister, he advised on the accession of a number of sovereign states in Central and Eastern Europe seeking to become Member States of the European Union. He has also been involved in environmental projects in Ukraine and Armenia, including as an advisor on a World Bank Project.
His mother tongue is English, and he has a sound working knowledge of French and Italian.
